The Chilli Festival

I’ve often thought about taking Rory to a festival but the size and scale of them overwhelm me. Instead I prefer to do my research on campsites, prioritising distance and activities close by for my 5 year old son. We have been camping in the Gower before, so when I saw an advertisement for the ‘Chilli Festival’ it was only a matter of time before I booked us up to go!

With the promise of children’s activities, cooking demonstrations such as a chilli cook off, food stalls, bar and bands, combined with 2 nights camping, what was there not to like! I even roped in my friend and her two children to join us. All five of us shared a tent and it was so lovely to have the company. I particularly enjoyed watching the children play on the large grassed area in front of our tent, whilst my friend and I chillaxed with a plastic glass of wine and prepared the bbq! I love camping!

The festival itself was small in comparison to others but that is what I liked about it. We were able to come and go as we pleased with our wristbands. The children enjoyed an animal petting area, construction area, soft play, and activities to do around the field. They also loved roleplaying in the RNLI lifeboat. I was keen to sample the chilli cocktail delights in the bar but I must say it was not for me and my mouth was on fire! You have to try these things though!

Once the children had had enough, the campsite was onsite which was helpful. There were quite a few campers but we had ample space. There were also some lovely glamping tents on offer for the weekend but they were out of our price range. And even though our tent did leak, it didn’t stop our enjoyment! Who knew how much fun glow sticks were!

It was a fantastic little festival. If we were local to the area and I didn’t have Rory for the weekend, it would be great to go for the day with a group of friends, lounging on blankets listening to a variety of local bands, whilst of course sampling some chilli delights! I’m so glad we went and were able to share the experience with our friends.
